Fountainhead has been authorized to run the CIE IGCSE program. Our first batch of Grade 9 will start in 2012-13. Fountainhead offers the PYP programme up to Grade 6. Grade 7 and Grade 8 is a transitional phase for the students. At this stage, the students are slowly steered towards IGCSE because the school will offer the IGCSE programme in Grade 9 & 10. The rationale behind this shift from IB to IGCSE is that IB MYP does not offer a public examination at Grade 10 level and in India a Grade 10 Pass Certificate is still a prime requirement in most of the educational institutions at higher levels as well as for professional jobs. The subjects offered in Grade 7 and Grade 8 are Mathematics, Science, English, Social Studies, Hindi, Visual Art, AS, PS and PE. The curriculum to be taught in these subjects is compiled by the school. For Mathematics and Science, the IGCSE check point books are used as reference points. Four novels are completed over a period of one year in each class for English, in addition to selected short stories and poetry. Grammar is taught as part of the ongoing curriculum and not separately. Social Studies entails an in depth study about the current events. The broad method of teaching is inquiry based taking a cue from the IB programme. Two examinations are conducted at the Grade 7 and Grade 8 level, one in October-November and the other in April. Regular formative and summative assessments are conducted in class to check the understanding level of the students for each topic taught in each subject. |
