Fountainhead School offers the Primary Years Programme from Nursery to Grade 6. The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) is designed for students aged 3 to 12 and emphasizes on the development of the whole child through focus on the cultural, emotional, intellectual, physical, and social needs.

At the heart of the PYP's philosophy is a commitment to using guided, purposeful inquiry as the primary vehicle for learning. The programme actively engages students in their own learning and encourages them to develop a lifelong curiosity about the world. Students are encouraged to ask questions and reason things to develop a sound method for evaluating information and building knowledge.

The curriculum incorporates five essential elements:

  • Knowledge: The curriculum is presented in ways that support a holistic understanding of ideas rather than the mere acquisition of facts.
  • Concepts: These are expressed in the form of key questions and drive the units of inquiry which the teachers and students design.
  • Skills: Through inquiry, students acquire thinking, communication, social, research, and self- management skills known as trans-disciplinary skills.
  • Attitudes: The programme fosters the development of a set of positive attitudes that looks at the world with an international mindset.
  • Action: Students are encouraged to reflect, make informed choices and take action that will help their peers and the wider community.

Six trans-disciplinary guiding themes provide the framework for conceptual understanding and lie at the core of the Programme of Inquiry:

  • Who we are.
  • Where we are in place and time.
  • How we express ourselves.
  • How the world works.
  • How we organize ourselves.
  • Sharing the planet.

These themes transcend traditional structures for disciplines (language, mathematics, social studies, science, technology, the arts, and personal, social and physical education) and are vehicles for the development of skills, attitudes, concepts, and meaningful action. The themes are globally significant, age relevant, and are found in every IB PYP school around the world. They offer students the opportunity to explore the commonality of human experience. The content and topics within each theme will differ in each school allowing for exploration of both local and global perspectives.

Students are encouraged to become active, independent, inquiring, lifelong learners who will have the tools to succeed in an ever-changing, complex world. As responsible and compassionate global citizens, they will help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. We aspire to educate students who will take action and make a difference in their community, country, and in the world.

Through focus on the learner profile, we strive to develop learners, communicators, risk-takers, thinkers, and inquirers who are reflective, balanced, principled, and knowledgeable. These learner profile attributes represent the IB mission statement in action and are central to the development of international-mindedness among our students.

The programme promotes the use of a variety of effective assessments to measure students' learning and performance. Students work in partnership with teachers to assess and reflect on their work.

The curriculum is divided into two:
