FS Culture

Values arise out of what we believe to be important about people, society and about learning and knowledge. A school’s vision and mission statement indicates its core values which inform and support the way the school develops.

Every decision and every interaction that takes place in Fountainhead School reflects the values of the individuals involved and the collective values of our school community. It provides us a framework for learning and personal development which, in practice, the school community share and agree on. In order to be professional and ethical it is important that each school member practice these values so well that even if no policy or procedure manuals are available, we would still make the best decisions based on our understanding of these values.

The values have been chosen after brainstorming with all the staff members. FS values has an acronym FRREWIL (freewill). These values while interconnected with each other, represent different dimensions of the way each member of the Fountainhead team must always abide by in letter and in spirit. Every Fountainhead team member is expected to display these values:

  1. Fairness: I am fair and just to all & I expect to be treated the same.
  2. Responsible: I fulfill the roles entrusted to me with complete responsibility.
  3. Respect: I accord respect and dignity to all including myself.
  4. Excellence: I endeavor to excel constantly in all spheres of my work.
  5. Win-win: I synergize with others to achieve results and to forge relationships.
  6. Integrity: I do what I say.
  7. Learner: I always explore new opportunities to learn.

Fountainhead School gives a lot of importance to professional development of teachers throughout their work span to build and sustain a value driven professional learning community. Our goal is to develop human potential in a continuous effort to become and remain an institute of excellence in education. Professional development seeks to improve the knowledge and skills of faculty and staff through a variety of internal and external human resource development programs. We believe that there is a continuous change and innovation happening in the field of education. To keep abreast with it, we conduct Professional Development programs.

The ongoing PD program includes training, practice and feedback, giving opportunities for individual reflection, placing group inquiry into practice, coaching or other follow up procedures and opportunities to interact with peers focusing on students’ learning.

The PD program includes:

  1. Extensive Teacher Training Program: We have In-house workshops, either conducted by senior teachers, the PYP coordinator or the HOS to enhance the language, refine mathematical skills, update new teaching strategies etc. Teachers regularly attend the regional workshops conducted by the IBO and read a minimum of 2 Professional Development books every year, to improve teaching and learning practices. Team Building Programs: Nurturing students starts from nurturing teachers, so we conduct team building activities like leadership meet, staff sports day, nature camp, adventure activities which help our teachers to become socially adaptable people within school fraternity. These activities bring them closer and motivate them. It improves relations and strengthens the bond among the employees. Everyone strives hard to achieve a common goal. The chances of confusions, misunderstandings decreases and helps increase effective communication.

A brief list of the Professional Development (PD) Programs at FS which all teachers undergo:

Extensive Teacher Training Program:

In-house workshops, either conducted by senior teachers, the PYP coordinator or the HOS to enhance the language, refine mathematical skills, update new teaching strategies, How to become an effective teacher,

Some teachers get an opportunity to attend workshops conducted by other schools/ institutions/ organizations in other cities. They then replicate the workshop and share it with other teachers.

At least once in 18 months, we have in-school workshops organized by the IBO for the PYP. We have 2-3 different workshops being conducted simultaneously. The workshop leaders generally are trained workshop leaders from India and abroad, nominated by the IB regional office.

Teachers regularly attend the regional workshops conducted by the IBO.

Teachers read a minimum of 2 Professional Development books every year, to improve teaching and learning practices.

Drop Everything And Read, DEAR time – to encourage reading amongst the staff members we provide them 2 slots (1 hour each) each month, where they have to just sit and read. An hour of completely focusing and giving attention to reading. We believe that Readers are Leaders! So we are role modelling the same for our students (and parents), that’s why we want everyone to learn to read.

Teachers are encouraged to take up a Certificate Course in Teaching, for which they are given monetary incentive e.g. B.Ed. – we encourage our teaching staff to pursue B.Ed. We have tied up with 2-3 institutions, where teachers can enroll for B.Ed. On completion of B.Ed, the teachers will get an amount of Rs. 5000 from the school. This helps the teachers financially and also offers an incentive for those pursuing it. The other courses are NTT, Diploma in Early Childcare and Education etc.
